This five day one day a week or five consecutive day's training course is designed for Key personnel in organisations needing the skills and knowledge to manage health and safety: simply being aware of and understanding the issues is not enough.
For managers or supervisors, the course
covers techniques of health and safety management, safe systems of work,
workplace safety, electrical safety, selection of work equipment, accident
investigation, occupational health, hazardous substances, fire safety, risk
assessment and legislative requirements.
It is essential for all those who have a role that includes responsibility for
the management of health and safety issues, including managers, supervisors and
senior safety personnel.
On completing this qualification,
candidates will be able to:
- Manage health and safety in most
businesses
- Develop auditing and monitoring programmes
- Design safe practices and procedures
- Liaise with enforcement officers
- Interpret legal requirements
- Train staff and establish risk assessment projects (with additional training
where necessary)
Candidates are assessed on the basis of
their performance in a 2½ hour examination representing 60% of the final grade
and two course assignments representing the remaining 40%. The final pass mark
is 60%. Those who gain a mark of 80% or more are awarded a credit certificate

Candidates should have completed the C.I.E.H. Intermediate Certificate in Supervising Health and Safety or
similar
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Advanced Certificate in Health
